MISSION STATEMENT and CHOIR POLICY
Mission Statement
The Coryule Chorus is a community choir which rehearses and performs 4-part harmony (SATB) music to both enrich the participation of members as well as the local community through concerts and community events.
We perform at Bellarine Aged Care Facilities, and in our community as requested. We hold at least one concert per year and an annual workshop with a guest presenter. All choir members are urged to attend this workshop which is both enjoyable and beneficial.
Choir Policy
Joining the Chorus
We ask that you enjoy listening for a one of two rehearsals to see if our style is for you. Our Musical Director (MD) will then speak with you about whether there is a current place or if your name will be placed on a waiting list.
Rehearsals
1.30 – 3.40pm Thursday at St James Church hall, Collins St. Drysdale. On 2nd and 4th Thursdays: an occasional 1pm for soloists or separate parts is held. A two-month winter break, usually all of July and August, occurs annually. A shorter Christmas/New Year break varies in length in relation to concert commitments before and after the New Year.
Expectations
Every choir member should attend sufficient rehearsals prior to a major concert event to ensure that parts are learnt well and that each chorister can make a positive, worthwhile contribution to the concert.
Commitment to regular attendance at rehearsals will not only ensure that each chorister is well prepared musically but will also honour the serious preparation done by fellow choristers in readiness for each performance.
Absence Policy
From time to time, for a variety of genuine reasons, members may not be able to attend choir for extended periods of time. Leave of absence from choir activities should be applied for in advance and in writing, to the MD. The MD will then negotiate the length and conditions of such leave with the applicant, and where leave is granted this may include certain conditions being agreed to and met upon return from leave. Any situation where leave is refused by the MD, the matter must be brought before the committee.
To maintain the integrity of the choir, if members are unable to commit to regular attendance at rehearsals or performances, they may, following a period of negotiation, and after ratification by the committee, be asked by the MD to forfeit their position in the choir.
